Emotion
My name is Veronica Mork and I am 13 and ¾. I enjoy listening to and playing music. I hate people with bad grammar that don't know when to use “their” or “there”, or “your” and “you're”, etc. I am a big fan of puns and pretzels and feminism. I love dogs because they respect and appreciate everything and everyone. They also enjoy the small things in life, such as peeing on things and eating flowers. I think we humans could learn a lot from them. I hate/am deeply terrified of cats and taxes. I tend to get lost often because I never pay attention to where I am. I love Cage the Elephant, Børns, Saint Motel, and Walk the Moon. I am afraid of small dogs such as chihuahuas and pomeranians because they tend to be hatred-filled beings, and often times their rage is directed at me. I can't get anything done if I'm not listening to music and it helps me focus a lot, which is very helpful when I'm making art because it inspires me tremendously. I like to copy the grungy and undone sound of the songs I listen to and incorporate it into my work. I am also inspired by messy art that depicts classic images such as people and nature, but has little imperfections that make it seem much more realistic in my opinion. I think it is important for people to know that perfect is boring, so I usually keep the flaws that I accidentally put into my pieces.
My capstone theme is emotion. I think emotion ties in well with color because colors strongly represent and express emotion. For example, happiness can be expressed with lighter and brighter colors. Gloomier feelings are better expressed with darker and cooler colors. I planned on making lots of pieces that express emotion with their positions and coloring, but some of my pieces I just colored white so you could assume the color and emotion that it portrays based on its shape and position. I usually portray darker and more depressing emotions because they are the strongest and most noticeable to me when I am feeling them. I like to use a lot of pastel and lighter colors as well to add a happier feeling so it’s not too depressing to look at my art. Also, emotions can be a mix of a lot of things, so you can be happy and filled with euphoria (which can be represented with lighter and warmer colors) but still have a layer of sadness, which can be represented with darker undertones, or vice versa. I do a lot of coil building, but I also like to sculpt things out of one big block of clay. I do only hand-building because when I try to throw on the wheel I create chaos rather than art. I don't really have a reason for making my art other than the fact that I enjoy it and it's mandatory for my class.
